The more I shoot with a 4×5 camera, the more I like its 4:5 ratio. I was a fan of square images, and I think I still am. Nevertheless, for landscapes, the 1:1 ratio doesn’t always work very well for me or for the scene. This photo was taken with a Hasselblad SWC 903 camera and then cropped to the 4:5 ratio. It’s like using a large format camera with the lens shifted down a little bit. One may choose to use an A16 back and point the camera downward, but the perspective would be different. So I like this shoot-and-crop approach better.
As long as I get the image I want to make, I think it’s ok to lose some part of the film.
