After I got the new hard drive on Tuesday, I spent two days on putting my computer back in working order. Windows 7 (64-bit) was installed and is now running smoothly while some of my computer’s hardware are not fully compatible with it. Fortunately, there are ways to work around the compatibility issues. It took a fair amount of time to update Windows 7, and afterwards I installed the software I need for my work, such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Office, LaTeX (MikTeX), SilverFast, R, etc. I have also calibrate my monitors and scanner, which I think is essential for anyone who is serious about photography.
The desktop is more than 4 years old, and I’m glad it can run Windows 7 64-bit so that the maximum 4GB RAM can be used in full. With its Due 2 Quad processor, running Photoshop and Lightroom is not too slow. Although it’s not ideal, at least I can get my work done. Hopefully I will be able to upgrade some of the hardware in the near future.
