Zeiss Otus 85mm lens

Probably the best 85mm lens in 135 format, Zeiss Otus 85mm lens just became the newest member in my camera bag. No doubt it’s a fantastic portrait lens. But you can use it to shoot landscape as well. I’ve been using manual focus lenses almost exclusively for years and I totally agree with what others said, i.e., the focus ring on the Zeiss Otus 85mm lens is a joy to use.

My initial impression is that the image quality of the lens on the Canon 5Ds is comparable to that from Pentax 645D and Pentax 90mm macro lens. Although 2:3 is still not my preferred aspect ratio, I’m happy that I can achieve similar image quality with the Zeiss Otus 85mm lens. I don’t want to keep both systems. Overall Canon is still a better system – more lens selections – than Pentax 645. Although the sensor is smaller, I am confident that the compromise is minimum.

After giving up on Canon 7 years ago, I guess I can give it another chance now.
